Form 940, the Employer’s Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return, is used by employers in the United States to report and pay federal unemployment taxes. The FUTA tax provides funds for paying unemployment compensation to workers who lose their jobs.
Failing to file or pay FUTA tax on time can result in penalties and interest, so compliance is critical.
To build the "940 report", locate "Company Reports" on the navigation panel on the left-hand side, then click "Reports". This will open up the reports area where you can utilize the filters to locate the reports you are looking for.
If you are not able to find the report you are looking for then press the green add button and look through the available options.
Locate the "Report 940", enter the year desired then press build to preview the report. Confirm the FEIN, company name, and address are correct.
Note:**If you do not see the year you are looking for in the drop-down, follow the steps above to add the correct year. This is a yearly report the government releases the final Form 940 and its instructions by December or January of the filing year, and employers are required to file the form by January 31st of the following year.**
The values in the area labeled Part 2 will be the federal unemployment taxes being reported.
Once you click "Download" will produce an editable PDF prefilled out with the name of the company.
When the PDF is shown in this way, you can download it onto your device.
To edit the information produced in the PDF, either edit the PDF directly or navigate to the company structure module, select the company with the matching FEIN, and then edit the information before re-running the report.
