Dynamic Breaks in StaffWizard
StaffWizard provides functionality for configuring Dynamic Breaks, allowing administrators to define break rules that automatically adapt to an employee’s actual shift times. This eliminates the need for manual adjustments and ensures accurate break management.
Overview
Dynamic Breaks are particularly useful in scenarios where:
-
An employee clocks in earlier or later than scheduled.
-
An employee works additional hours beyond their scheduled shift.
-
Shifts have varying start and end times.
When using Dynamic Breaks, the system will automatically calculate and adjust break times according to the employee’s actual time worked, regardless of the shift’s original schedule.
How to Configure Dynamic Breaks
Step 1: Access Break Management Settings
-
Navigate to the left-hand menu.
-
Click Master Company Settings.
-
Under Master Controls, select Break Management.
-
Choose the Break Rules tab.
From here, you can either:
-
Create a new break rule, or
-
Edit an existing break rule and enable Dynamic Breaks by toggling the setting from Disabled to Enabled.
Once enabled, a "Manage" button will appear. Select this button to proceed with the configuration.
Step 2: Configure Dynamic Break Settings
A pop-up window will be displayed with the following options:
-
Offset Break Times with Actual Shift Check-In Time
When enabled, this setting ensures break times are offset based on the employee’s actual clock-in time, rather than the originally scheduled time. -
Break Times Are Rounded Down to the Nearest Minute
This setting provides granular control over preferred break times, down to the minute—for example, allowing a break to be scheduled at 1:16 PM instead of rounding to 1:30 PM.
Step 3: Create Individual Dynamic Break Rules
Click [+ Add] to define a specific break rule. The following fields are required:
-
Type
Select the applicable break type. This must be pre-configured in the system prior to this step, but traditionally, a meal or rest break. -
Clock Period
- Break Clocking Start
Specifies the start of the time window (hour and minute) during which the break becomes eligible to be scheduled.
Flexible Clocking Period End
Specifies the end of the time window (hour and minute) after which the break is no longer eligible to be scheduled.
-
Break Duration
Enter the total duration of the break in hours or minutes. -
Minimum Shift Duration
Set the minimum shift length required for this break rule to be applied.
Repeat this process to add any additional break rules as needed.
Step 4: Save and Apply
After all break rules have been added:
-
Click Save to finalize the configuration.
-
When creating or editing a shift, you will have the option to assign the appropriate Dynamic Break Rule.
-
The system will then automatically apply and adjust breaks in accordance with the shift’s actual timing.
